An excellent, reasonably-priced 1950's Gibson has arrived in our showroom; this ES-175 from 1952, which remains an excellent player, with some player's-grade attributes that make this an excellent choice for players looking for vintage-pedigree that can be used as a daily player or gigging instrument. Included: Original tailpiece, output jack and 1938 Gibson Tweed / Striped case in overall, good condition.Â
The overall condition is VERY GOOD, being fully playable with low action and accurate intonation. The guitar shows many signs of use, but reasonable, organic play-wear. The guitar was serviced by Gibson 2005, which included a neck reset / fretboard repair (planed), a re-fret, nut replacement and setup. Â The output jack was also replaced by Gibson during this time. We have paperwork from the Gibson company showing that these items were repaired. The original P90 sounds great, and the original tuning machines function very well. The bridge has been replaced with a nickel-plated floating bridge, and the original tailpiece has been replaced with a later Gibson tailpiece at some point. The original is included, but damaged - and could likely be repaired. Â A retro-fit rosewood bridge could replace it for less than $50, with an original costing $150-$200. Â The original Gibson 1930's case is good working shape, has a replaced handle (original included, damaged), but all of the latches work perfectly.Â
The guitar plays great, and sounds awesome with a punchy, but still warm tone. Â The action is low, and the frets are in great shape. There are no dead / buzzy spots, even up at higher registers. There is some visually-identifiable "fall-away" from the 15th fret to the end of the fretboard - which is quite common, especially on guitars with reset necks. The guitar plays wonderfully as-is and is priced accordingly.Â
