The Paul Reed Smith 24-08 brings many of the classic PRS specs from the Custom 24 model, with some very cool modifications, such as TCI pickups with individual splits per pickup. This allows a different set of single-coil tones, as well as the ability to leave one pickup in humbucking mode, and one pickup in single coil mode. The TCI pickups have a brighter, more focused bandwidth that the full size 85/15 humbuckers normally associated with the Custom 24.Â
This one has a highly-figured, violin-carved top finished in Yellow Tiger, which has a warm, amber tone with dark stripes in the figuring. The mahogany back shows excellent figure, and the neck even has a some flame in mahogany. This one weighs in a 7.6 LBS and feels great on strap. The setup from the factory was perfect on arrival, with low action and perfect intonation.Â
